Isaacman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/news-release\/nasa-unveils-initiatives-to-achieve-americas-national-space-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced the news<\/a> during NASA&#8217;s Ignition event on Tuesday, where he also described goals to launch a nuclear-powered spacecraft to Mars, as reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/03\/24\/science\/nasa-moon-base-mars-spacecraft.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earlier by the <em>New York Times<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">As a result of plans to establish a base on the Moon, NASA announced that it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2018\/8\/28\/17790374\/nasa-moon-surface-astronauts-lunar-space-station-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pausing its Gateway project<\/a> &#8220;in its current form,&#8221; which would&#8217;ve launched a space station orbiting the Moon.
