The goal is to eventually build chips at scale for robotics, artificial intelligence, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/871641\/spacex-fcc-1-million-solar-powered-data-centers-satellites-orbit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">space-based data centers<\/a> for Musk&#8217;s various companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Musk has expressed concern, as have other executives, about the chip industry&#8217;s ability to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/880812\/ramageddon-ram-shortage-memory-crisis-price-2026-phones-laptops\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">keep up with demand<\/a> as the AI industry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/ai-artificial-intelligence\/848988\/nvidia-chip-loans-coreweave-gpu-debt-ai-neocloud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has boomed<\/a>. But building a chip fabrication plant is complex, requires billions of dollars, many years, and a ton of specialized equipment.
