Sources familiar with the matter say the company could lay off as much as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/world-at-work\/meta-planning-sweeping-layoffs-ai-costs-mount-2026-03-14\/?utm_source=braze&amp;utm_medium=notifications&amp;utm_campaign=2025_engagement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">20 percent<\/a> of its staff, eliminating roughly 15,800 positions. That would be the largest series of layoffs at the company since it terminated 22,000 workers over just a few months between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/11\/9\/23448926\/meta-layoffs-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">November 2022<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2023\/03\/mark-zuckerberg-meta-year-of-efficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">early 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-none\">Word of the potential downsizing comes after Meta signaled that it was all but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/861295\/meta-reality-labs-layoffs-shift-to-wearables\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">giving<\/a> up on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/881647\/meta-vr-mobile-metaverse-horizon-worlds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VR<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/863209\/meta-has-discontinued-its-metaverse-for-work-too\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Metaverse<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/838186\/meta-metaverse-budget-cuts-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">slashing budgets<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/861420\/meta-reality-labs-layoffs-vr-studios-twisted-pixel-sanzaru-armature\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">closing studios<\/a>.
